HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM

Our Fresh Food Program, commonly known as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, is a mutual commitment between a farm and a community of supporters, providing a direct link between the people who grow food and the people who eat it. CSA members cover an integral part of the farm’s seasonal operating budget by purchasing a share of the season’s harvest before it is grown. Members’ payments help cover the cost for seeds, equipment maintenance, production, etc. In return the farm supplies, to the best of its ability, a healthy supply of fresh seasonal produce throughout the growing season. Your support is also a financial commitment. It enables us to prepare for the needs of the farm so that all of us can enjoy the bounty of the harvest not just this year, but for years to come. With this support, we hope you’ll think of it as your farm, too!

When you purchase from Giles Farms you are also helping support local organizations. Each week we donate Fresh Produce boxes that aren’t picked up to community food banks such as Micah Mission Center, the Salvation Army, and other community organizations who operate food banks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the Fresh Produce program work?

We carefully curate the season’s best mix of produce for you and your family each week.

Our sixth-generation family farm grows different varieties of produce for your box. You choose the number of boxes and pick-up dates that best fits your lifestyle and family size.

What is the season length and pricing?

13 weeks, beginning June 8 and ending September 1, 2018. 2018 summer memberships are $364.00.

One month of our Fresh Produce box is less than the cost of one single meal for the whole family at a quality restaurant. That’s $28 a week for a $30 value at your typical farmers market. Memberships can be paid in full or in four payments of $91, starting with an initial $91 deposit via check, e-check or credit card.

All payments are non-refundable.

What are the pick-up times and locations?

For the 2018 season, we’re offering two pick-up dates/times:

  • Friday, On the farm (15 minutes from Hopkinsville) from 9am-Noon.
  • Saturday: On the farm (15 minutes from Hopkinsville) from 9am-Noon.
What is the share size?

We offer one share size (regular), however you can purchase one or more boxes depending on your household size and eating habits.

One regular box is perfect for a family of two for one week. Two regular boxes is recommended for a family of four or a family of two vegetarians for one week. If you’re single, we highly recommended splitting a share with a friend and alternating pick-up weeks.

What products can I expect for the summer harvest season?

June sample box items: Cabbage, onions, new potatoes, radishes, head lettuce, strawberries, herbs

July sample box items: Sweet corn, potatoes, green beans, okra, squash peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, herbs

August sample box items: Sweet corn, tomatoes, okra, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, herbs

What if I’m out of town or on vacation during a week?

If you’re unable to pick up your share, you can arrange for someone else to pick it up for you or gift it to a friend. Simply, explain the pick-up location and procedures to your substitute.

Shares that are not retrieved within the pick-up time will become property of Giles Farms and donated to community food banks such as Micah Mission Center, the Salvation Army and other community organizations who operate food banks.

How does billing work?

As a member, we require that all customers have an automatic payment method saved on file. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and (electronic) eCheck/ACH through our secure third-party processor. Additionally, we accept paper checks through an invoicing system.

Click here for member agreement details.

How do I place a bulk order or order just sweet corn?

We plan on launching an online Store this summer where you can place bulk orders for various produce items for your next dinner party or event. The Store will also allow you to order just specialty produce items such as sweet corn, watermelon, canning tomatoes, etc.

What are your growing practices?

In the fall, we start with a cover crop of typically cereal rye and crimson clover. Then in the spring, some of the plants will be no-tilled into this and others will be planted after this is worked into the ground.

We use lime, fertilizer and mulch in our gardens. If needed, we apply insecticides, herbicides and fungicides to protect the quality of the produce.

How does your Refer a Friend program work?

Refer a Friend and get rewarded! When joining the Fresh Produce program, have your friend simply enter your name in the “how did you hear about us” comment box during check-out. This comment will appear during the last step of the sign-up process beneath the payment method step.

You’ll be rewarded a $25 Farmigo credit, a currency that may only be used in the Giles Farms Web Store. The Web Store will be available in the summer where you’ll have your choice of fresh produce or specialty items such as sweet corn, watermelon, canning tomatoes, etc.
